I cannot wait until your program is available in Russian. My daughter stopped watching the videos a while back, but she just recently started back up again. She wasn't recognizing hardly any of the words at the beginning. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Miggy,
We are currently working to translate the videos into many languages. Spanish is very high on our list of translations. Please check back in a few months to see if we have released our Spanish versions.
We are often asked about teaching children a second language. Here is some information I have previously written on teaching infants and toddlers a second language:
Why Teach Your Baby or Toddler a Second Language?

It is easier for a young child to learn a second language than it is for adults. A recent study found that children who learned a second language after the age of 11 had two distinct areas of the brain for understanding language -- one for their native language and one for their second language. On the other hand, children who learned a second language before the age of four had one large area of the brain which was active for both languages. This suggests that children who learn language skills in their first several years of life are able to develop brains that are more efficient than children who learn those skills later in life.

How Can You Teach Your Child a Second Language?

Here are a few methods that may work for your family:

If you or your partner is fluent in another language, one of you could speak primarily one language to your child while the other speaks another language.
Hire a babysitter who is fluent in another language or find a day care provider who speaks another language. Form a social group with other families and invite a teacher (who is fluent with a native accent) to teach the children and adults using children's books and natural dialogue situations. Use videos (I recommend ll videos), books, computer software, and/or audio tapes to expose your child to other languages. Travel to areas (across town or around the world) where other languages are spoken and limit your use of English. She can start teaching the baby at around 2 or 3 months when the child has visual tracking and you can introduce the child to both languages at the same time.

It is great that your son is learning so quickly. Initially your son’s memory for the words will be related to many factors, the style of font used, the text color, the background color and the order of the words in the videos. Over time, he will learn to generalize so that he will recognize more words and will recognize words regardless of their fonts and the order in which you present them, etc.

Hi Denise,
I am sorry that it has taken a while to post my responses to the blog. I am quite busy and spent the early part of the year traveling frequently. Most of my attention has been focused on new product development. We have also had a technical issue with our blog. Now, it should be easier to see the answers since they will be posted near the questions.

Hi Svetlana,
We are very interested in using my multi-sensory approach to teach children all over the world and have plans of translating the video series into Russian and many other languages. We are working to accomplish this over the next several months. Please make sure you read my post on anything written about it.
Please send more information on how you are trying to teach your children to speak Russian.

Hi Amy,
Over the years, we have had many letters, emails and phone calls from the parents of children with autism who used the program with their children. Sometimes, the parents began with the program before their child’s diagnosis. We have received such touching stories from parents who credit the program with their child’s improved ability to communicate. I have been an invited speaker at Miami Childrens Hospital’s Dan Marino Center for Austism where I met talked with a parent who had 2 children who were doing very well after using Your Baby Can Read!
Many children with autism are visual learners and this program can be very beneficial for them. Please limit the use of entertainment based videos that early on may seem good but in the long run will not be helpful for your child or you.
There are several possible studies that might be of interest to you. Please let us know which city you live near since there may be study close by where you could get involved.

Hi William,
Currently we do not offer the program in Spanish but we are working to translate the program into many languages. Please check back in a few months. It is a wonderful thing that you are interested in helping single mothers and under-privileged families in Guatemala! This program could put each child on a better path in life.
Thank you!

Hi Victoria,
We have thought about creating classes like the ones you described for many years. And, if we decide to offer a class in your area we would contact you. You sound very qualified and hopefully we will work together one day.
