    Dear Dr Titzer,

I am thrilled to here that You Baby Can Read is now available in Vietnamese! Any plans on releasing it in Russian? Our 3 children grow in English speaking environment, with dad also speaking English. I am really struggling to get them to speak Russian to me and between themselves. Please HELP!

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

      Hi Svetlana,
We are very interested in using my multi-sensory approach to teach children all over the world and have plans of translating the video series into Russian and many other languages. We are working to accomplish this over the next several months. Please make sure you read my post on anything written about it.
Please send more information on how you are trying to teach your children to speak Russian.

Hi, my name is Amy and I am trying to contact Dr. Robert C. Titzer. I have 2 children with autism, and I really think the program might work for them. I wanted to talk to him regarding the possibility of doing a trial with them, or possibly having him recommend something that might help. If you can get this message to him I would be so grateful.
    Thank you, Amy Hurley

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

      Hi Amy,
Over the years, we have had many letters, emails and phone calls from the parents of children with autism who used the program with their children. Sometimes, the parents began with the program before their child’s diagnosis. We have received such touching stories from parents who credit the program with their child’s improved ability to communicate. I have been an invited speaker at Miami Childrens Hospital’s Dan Marino Center for Austism where I met talked with a parent who had 2 children who were doing very well after using Your Baby Can Read!
Many children with autism are visual learners and this program can be very beneficial for them. Please limit the use of entertainment based videos that early on may seem good but in the long run will not be helpful for your child or you.
There are several possible studies that might be of interest to you. Please let us know which city you live near since there may be study close by where you could get involved.

    Hi Dr. Titzer,

    I have a 13 month child.
I speak to him in English and Spanish. He’s been watching your videos in English. Is there a place to buy them in Spanish. Also when should I start teaching him how to read in Spanish?

    Thanks for your feedback!

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

      Hi Miggy,
We are currently working to translate the videos into many languages. Spanish is very high on our list of translations. Please check back in a few months to see if we have released our Spanish versions.
We are often asked about teaching children a second language. Here is some information I have previously written on teaching infants and toddlers a second language:
Why Teach Your Baby or Toddler a Second Language?

It is easier for a young child to learn a second language than it is for adults. A recent study found that children who learned a second language after the age of 11 had two distinct areas of the brain for understanding language — one for their native language and one for their second language. On the other hand, children who learned a second language before the age of four had one large area of the brain which was active for both languages. This suggests that children who learn language skills in their first several years of life are able to develop brains that are more efficient than children who learn those skills later in life.

How Can You Teach Your Child a Second Language?

Here are a few methods that may work for your family:

If you or your partner is fluent in another language, one of you could speak primarily one language to your child while the other speaks another language.
Hire a babysitter who is fluent in another language or find a day care provider who speaks another language. Form a social group with other families and invite a teacher (who is fluent with a native accent) to teach the children and adults using children’s books and natural dialogue situations. Use videos (I recommend ll videos), books, computer software, and/or audio tapes to expose your child to other languages. Travel to areas (across town or around the world) where other languages are spoken and limit your use of English. She can start teaching the baby at around 2 or 3 months when the child has visual tracking and you can introduce the child to both languages at the same time.

  5. Hello and Happy Holidays Dr. Titzer,
I am very impressed with the work you are doing in regards to early education development. I have a core piece to your system that could truly drive a child’s learning experience! I have LeapFrog, Build-A-Bear and Kingston interested in partnering.

I currently work in the aerospace industry in Denver, Colorado, as the Director of Business Development for Red Canyon Software. Much of our recent focus has been with direct contracts with NASA for educational simulation software. We have developed a Mars Autonomous Flight Mission, MarsFlight, and LunarSim is our new contract, which will allow children to land and build a habitat on the moon.

We also work in other areas of aerospace and defense, including being on Lockheed Martin’s team for the Constellation Program to develop Orion, which is the successor to the Space Shuttle, as well as supporting 18 NASA and DOD programs. Real-time flight and simulation software is our primary background, but we have added mechanical, electrical and systems engineering to the capabilities list.

However, my “pet” project since I came on board as an executive at Red Canyon five years ago was to work with children’s software, specifically geared at STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs. Your system is intriguing, as learning to read provides the foundation for all other learning capacities. I am impressed with your psychological knowledge of children during this stage of development. I think I can add a cognitive development tool that will raise the bar and take the child through a journey of learning in regards to STEM and another item I will share with you if this is enticing enough as a welcomed introduction.

I work almost 24/7, but I will be on Holiday from the 26th-1st. I’ll still be checking emails.

I welcome a call or email!

We have used the starter dvd for 30 days and our son who is 3 can read almost every word when he is viewing the video but only gets a few words correct when viewing those same words in the starter book or on the word cards, or written anywhere else. Did we miss something in how to use the system?

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

It is great that your son is learning so quickly. Initially your son’s memory for the words will be related to many factors, the style of font used, the text color, the background color and the order of the words in the videos. Over time, he will learn to generalize so that he will recognize more words and will recognize words regardless of their fonts and the order in which you present them, etc.

I want to buy the basic/first lesson for babys in English.
I am also interested in a Spanish version, if there is one available, as I will be opening a day care for single mothers and under privilaged families in a small village in Guatemala early 2009.
If this is part of the special tv offer, I will buy that.
    do you have both languages?
If not, the english version will do for now.

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

      Hi William,
Currently we do not offer the program in Spanish but we are working to translate the program into many languages. Please check back in a few months. It is a wonderful thing that you are interested in helping single mothers and under-privileged families in Guatemala! This program could put each child on a better path in life.
      Thank you!

Dr. Titzer, have you thought about creating a place for infants or toddlers to learn collectively during the course of the day as in a mommy and me class or day care center? I am from New York and I know that there are many opportunities already established where this may be beneficial in toddler programs with the proper educators; teaching assistants and/or parent present. I received a teacher degree in early childhood education many years ago from Mills College of Education in NYC. Additionally, I volunteered my time over the years to improving certain conditions for children of all ages; event planning to raise money for the building of the Schneider’s Children’s Hospital on LI , the first and only one in NY , to planning and creating job opportunities for Cornell University graduates as part of the Parent Fund Committee, in the Metropolitan region. Those years were very rewarding. Since then, I have worn many different hats in my own businesses but until now I can really appreciate what you created. You are making a living but more importantly you are making a difference in the world! It is so nice that you have an affiliate program which could benefit people financially while promoting your products. How rewarding to help children learn to read and help their parents at the same time. I would just love an opportunity to earn a living that way full time.! I do believe in it whole heartedly and see the merit in it. Again, it is quite a wonderful system for those that can make the time and utilize it. But for those that cannot afford their own complete system, or cannot participate in Mommy and me classes, how about organizing mini classes under your BRAND? Like a franchise of mini classes, that incorporates your programs and uses music and art appreciation as well. I have not stopped thinking about the realm of possibilities this system can offer as it continues to grow. I would love an opportunity to discuss some of my ideas with you further and help you implement them if you would be interested please let me know .If there is an opportunity for someone like myself to become part of your team, I would love it! I also have a music and art background. I had illustrated children’s books in college and later on developed an arts and crafts business whereby I designed arts and crafts kits, and then promoted them worldwide including QVC. I look forward to your email. My best for the coming New Year and again congratulations Dr. Titzer on your success!
    Victoria

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

      Hi Victoria,
We have thought about creating classes like the ones you described for many years. And, if we decide to offer a class in your area we would contact you. You sound very qualified and hopefully we will work together one day.

Do any of the questions posted get answered? If so, where can I read the answers?

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

      Hi Denise,
I am sorry that it has taken a while to post my responses to the blog. I am quite busy and spent the early part of the year traveling frequently. Most of my attention has been focused on new product development. We have also had a technical issue with our blog. Now, it should be easier to see the answers since they will be posted near the questions.

  10. George says:

We are encouraged with the progress our daughter is making. She can consistently recognize, and say 95% of the words in Starter, and One levels. However, we are finding it sometimes challenging to accept the invitation to “play”. She’ll simply say “no” .

    What suggestions do you have?

    Thanks

    George

  11. MOLLY says:

My son Graham started your program at 16 month mark, 4 weeks ago. He enjoys the video ( 2-3 times daily as he walks around one of the times) & we do the large flip book at night. We try the flash cards a few times daily, but he really does not focus on these- he is a really active boy. he can recognize the word ‘hi’ , but then calls all the words ‘hi’. Should we move on to the #1 set or stay with the starter for 2 more weeks? How many words should he know by now? thanks. we love the quality of the set & are having fun teaching him!

    • Robert C. Titzer says:

      Hi Molly,
After 1 month, your child should move on to the next video in the series. Please do not be concerned if he doesn’t know all of the words from the first DVD. Those same words will be shown again in the Volume 1 DVD. And, he will review the Starter video even while he is focused on the next video in the series. Please see the suggestions below to help your child focus on the videos
The active child is the child who may have trouble sitting still and focusing on the videos. We have several strategies for helping the child focus while the videos are playing.

1.) Please try dimming the lights while the child is watching the videos. This will help them focus on the screen and not on other objects in the room. This has the same effect as being at the movies where we pay less attention to the people sitting around us and we are able to focus our attention on the screen.
2.) Try to remove any distractions from the room before playing the videos-this includes toys and other objects that may hold your child’s attention. NOTE: Please remove the distractions well before playing the video so the child is not looking for missing toys.
3.) Try playing the videos while the child is seated in a high chair. Try this before or after the child has eaten.
4.) Try playing the video immediately after the child has woken form a nap.
5.) Please do not allow your child to watch other television. Let our videos be special by making television watching a rare occurrence.
6.) Allow your child to watch for five minutes at a time. Try doing fun activities between viewing the videos. Your child will be learning even if they are only able to sit still for several short sessions each day.

Thank you and good luck to you and your child!
